Support the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium, Zoombezi Bay, and Safari Golf Club by maintaining clean and safe facilities during third shift operations. This essential role helps ensure our grounds are ready for guests and staff each day.

Responsibilities

Restroom & Grounds Maintenance

  • Responsible for maintaining cleanliness of public restroom facilities and adjacent areas throughout Zoo, Zoombezi Bay and Safari Golf Club grounds.
  • Daily maintenance of public restroom facilities, including but not limited to cleaning the mirrors, sinks, toilets, floors (e.g. mopping, sweeping), walls, doors, emptying trash receptacles, replenishing supplies, and maintaining cleanliness of grounds outside of the public rest rooms.

Event & Room Support

  • Clean-up for meetings and special events.
  • Provides support and assistance to all special events such as Wildlights.

Operational Support

  • Assists with grounds keeping duties as needed.
  • Fills out supply requisitions and work orders.
  • Assists other facilities staff when required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Guest & Safety Engagement

  • Assists visitors by giving directions to exhibits and answering questions and aiding in emergency situations.
  • Assures safety of self, staff, animals and guests through regular participation in safety training and activities; compliance with standard operating procedures; and proper operation and maintenance of equipment.
  • Constantly strives to further the mission of the organization and avidly supports the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium, Zoombezi Bay, Safari Golf Club and The Wilds.
  • Implements sustainable practices in daily tasks whenever possible.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • 6 months of related custodial experience required.

Communication & Teamwork

  • Ability to communicate well both verbally and in writing is required.
  • Ability to develop and maintain cooperative working relationships with all Zoo team members and contacts regarding company business required.
  • Ability to provide excellent guest service by positively interacting with guests and upholding the guest service standards required.

Work Style & Availability

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends and holidays required.
  • Ability to plan and organize work in an efficient and cost-effective manner without direct supervision is required.

Compliance & Safety

  • Ability to adhere to standard operating procedures including but not limited to safety protocols required.
  • Proof of negative TB screening prior to placement and annually thereafter required.
  • Possession of a valid state issued motor vehicle operator’s license, and a good driving record required.
  • Ability to adhere to the Columbus Zoo Family of Park’s drug-free workplace policy including but not limited to pre-employment, random, post-accident, reasonable suspicion and follow-up treatment required.
  • Ability to successfully complete a criminal history background check annually required.
