Join a mission-driven team that supports the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium, Zoombezi Bay, and Safari Golf Club. As a Part-Time Safety Coordinator, you’ll play a vital role in providing guidance to our seasonal EMS team and supporting safety operations across our parks. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to wildlife conservation while ensuring a safe and welcoming environment for guests and staff.

Responsibilities

Responsible for completing administrative and compliance tasks assigned within the Safety department as well as overseeing daily EMS operations.

 

Leadership & Team Support

  • Provides leadership, guidance, and support to the seasonal EMS team, fostering a collaborative and high-performing work environment.
  • Maintains proficiency as a Zoo EMS Team member and leads the Zoo EMS team.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.

Scheduling & Staffing

  • Ensures schedule is completed and published for all non-exempt safety/EMS staff.
  • Ensures weekly schedule is posted a minimum of 2 weeks prior.
  • Complete all seasonal status forms for Safety/EMS Department as needed.
  • Completes weekly payroll for all non-exempt safety staff.

Administrative & Compliance

  • Completes administrative and compliance related tasks associated with operations within the Safety Department.
  • Prepares and distributes all completed check request forms in a timely manner.
  • Maintains and organizes all safety related purchase order information and supporting documentation.
  • Maintains and organizes all safety related work order information and supporting documentation.
  • Develops and maintains a filing system for all administrative needs.
  • Schedules and organizes results from all safety/compliance related internal audits and third-party inspections.

Safety & Mission Support

  • Maintains alertness to potentially abnormal or unsafe conditions and responds appropriately.
  • Active participant in the Emergency Response Plan (ERP) and able to pass a semi-annual test on the ERP.
  • Always maintains the confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Constantly strives to further the mission of the organization and avidly supports the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium, Zoombezi Bay, Safari Golf Club and The Wilds.
  • Implements sustainable practices in daily tasks whenever possible.

Qualifications

Education & Certifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • EMT or Paramedic certification required.

Experience & Knowledge

  • Proven administrative experience in tracking work safety-related data (OSHA reporting, etc.)
  • Three years proven leadership experience is required.
  • Knowledge of office management systems and procedures required.

Technical & Organizational Skills

  • Microsoft Office software basic computer skills required.
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to multi-task and prioritize work.
  • Attention to detail and problem-solving skills required.
  • Strong organizational and planning skills required.

Interpersonal & Workplace Skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills required.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule during peak seasons required.
  • Ability to plan and organize work in an efficient and cost-effective manner without direct supervision is required.
  • Ability to provide excellent guest service by positively interacting with guests and upholding the guest service standards required.
  • Ability to develop and maintain cooperative working relationships with all Zoo team members and contacts regarding company business required.

Other Requirements

  • Proof of negative TB screening prior to placement and annually thereafter required.
  • Ability to successfully complete a criminal history background check annually required.
  • Ability to adhere to the Columbus Zoo Family of Park’s drug-free workplace policy including but not limited to pre-employment, random, post-accident, reasonable suspicion and follow-up treatment required.
